After planting the first nuts the temperature dropped below -10 ° C at night and did not rise above -5 ° C during the day for a week long. I'm afraid I lost the first batch (the rest was still sprouting in the fridge at 4 to 5 ° C). To date I have planted 8 nuts.
I choose this method to germinate: I soaked them for 24 hours, wrapped them in kitchen paper and keep them in the fridge. Now I just have to wait until January.
According to the publication "Frutti dimenticati e biodiversita recuperata" of march 2012, there exist "three lobed walnut trees" somewhere in Calabria. It is found in the mountainous areas of Calabria around 800 m above sea level, and prefers moist soils located near small streams. It is a large tree, with great vegetative vigor, characterized by an imposing bearing. Compound leaves similar in size to other walnut varieties. Fruit 4-5 cm in diameter, rounded, with a woody endocarp characterized by three slits placed at about 120 degrees from each other. The plants that produce these particular nuts are rarely found, at the moment there is no more detailed information.
